The Vaccines

The Riviera Theater

March 15, 2024

It’s been about Six LONG years since The Vaccines have returned to Chicago. Joining fellow Brits The Kooks as Special Guests in Celebration of Inside In/ Inside Out, The Vaccines did a 17 song set and the crowd begged for more. Their set had a mix from of songs from their previous albums, but they made sure to include 6 new tracks from their latest album Pick-Up Full of Pink Carnations released on January 12, 2024

Lead singer Justin Hayward-Young easily captivated everyone’s attention. He was very emotive and told a story with each song. Opening with Love to Walk Away, a frenzy of fans were dancing and singing back every word. Just like the lyric “All night waiting for you” it was evident how excited everyone was that The Vaccines were finally back in The Windy City.

Up next was Wreckin’ Bar (Ra Ra Ra). Since I was taking photos in the barricade, I could not help myself but take in my surroundings and enjoy the song as fan. It is off of their debut album What Did You Expect from the Vaccines? Packed with a catchy melody and pure tomfoolery, it was obvious the tune continues to be loved song by fans (myself included)

As I was enjoying the show, I noticed a new face. It was none other than Matt Hitt of indie band Drowners. It was an awesome surprise.

Closing with All My Friends, The Vaccines ended their set with a bang. The band’s energy was high and it was evident they love what they do.

Cheers to the return of The Vaccines and hoping they come back soon !
