Artist Spotlight: Sid Sriram
March 28, 2024
Born in Chennai, Tamil Nadu (India) Sid Sriram moved to Fremont, California (USA) at the age of one where he was heavily exposed to both the traditional carnatic sounds of his native India (via his music teacher mother) as well as the booming R&B and pop scenes that dominated California in the 90s and 2000s. This diverse influence of sound gave birth to freshly heartfelt yet haunting music that Siriam has deeply woven into his discography.
Sid largely has spent time back and forth from the United States and India where he balanced his time releasing self-produced debut album “Entropy” back in 2019, while simultaneously garnering a large international audience through his contributions in music in Bollywood.
Returning to the states back in 2021, Sriram began work on his latest all-English album “Sidharth” (released August 18, 2023) with producer Ryan Olson. The breakthrough album features a melding of Sriram’s musical backgrounds taking focus in Carnatic singing, Pop, Alternative Folk, and R&B. This is heavily pointed through a lens of distinctive vocal excellence delivered by Sriram with songs such as “Came Along,” and “Stance;” which feature dynamic and powerful vocal runs that reach the depths of the heart and climb back up again with ease.
The perfect storm of tradition and invitation, Sriram can be put in a league of his own. In the seamless marriage of various music genres, “Sidharth” marks a new beginning to a brand new sound that will guarantee a new salvation for anyone stuck in a music slump.
